Rachel, in her current role as Senior Instructor with REI Outdoor School, teaches classes in a variety of disciplines, including Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Backpacking, Hiking, and Cycling. She also leads regular trainings and assessments for REI Outdoor School Instructors in subjects ranging from risk management, emergency management, and instructional skills, to specific curriculum and content areas.
Rachel came to REI in 2014 with over two decades of outdoor adventure experience as an educator and guide in a wide range of outdoor endeavors, including class V whitewater rafting, canoeing, sea kayaking, outdoor rock climbing, caving, ropes courses, snowboarding, backpacking, and environmental education. She earned a Master of Science in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University at Mankato and holds current certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, ACA Level 2 SUP Instructor, and a Leave No Trace trainer. She has successfully completed the AMGA Single Pitch Instructor course.
In her free time, Rachel enjoys running, rock climbing, paddling, hiking, swimming, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, and camping with her husband and two sons, ages 8 and 11.
